Imitation Eee Keyboard — not as slick, but still sweet

There’s nothing truly special about the Eee Keyboard beyond the fact that Asus did it first. Sure, it took some fancy configuring to get the PCBs, RAM and everything in there, but if you were a dedicated DIY computer guy, you could do something similar. And this guy did — no touchscreen, no wireless HDMI, and it’s not as fast, but hey, it’s a computer in a keyboard!

Marissa Mayer: Twitter is Complementary to Google [Video]

Marissa Mayer, GoogleGoogle’s VP Search Products & User Experience, took fairly direct questions in the most recent edition of Digg Dialogg, the interviews series from social news site DiggDigg. Topics include the upcoming launch of Google WaveGoogle Wave, how Google feels about Microsoft Bing and Wolfram Alpha, and the biggest threats to Google’s survival (”complacency”, says Mayer). On Twitter, Mayer makes a calculated response: “Things show up there first. And so we definitely think that including that in the world’s information, hopefully being able to search that and surface that for our users, with all those realtime updates coming in, is something that could complement our search engine for those types of queries.”

“Twitter Rape Case”: MC Hammer’s Cousin Arrested

Marvin Turrell Grant, the cousin of MC Hammer who makes frequent appearances on A&E’s “Hammertime” TV show, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of raping a woman he met through Twitter. A 40-year old woman claims that the star, known on the show as “Bigg Marv” and “Lyin’ Marv” (and @biggmarv on Twitter), made advances after the pair went on a date. SFGate writes: According to her account, she and Grant had become acquainted days earlier when they began twittering and e-mailing each other. Grant, a regular on the “Hammertime” TV show, told the victim that he was filming in Las Vegas and just had flown into San Francisco International Airport, police said.

Price of the PS3 has come down 70 percent… what? No, not for you, silly

Remember that quote from Sony’s CEO about not lowering the price of the PS3 because they’d lose money on every one? Not exactly the truth. In fact, since the statement was made just a few weeks ago, it actually seems that the man was telling an outrageous lie. I mean sure, when it was introduced almost three years ago, it cost a bundle, but according to new Sony statements, manufacturing costs gone down by nearly three quarters since then. And yet the cost to you hasn’t changed! Weird.

College Rivalry Spills Over Into Battle of Who Has the Biggest … Facebook Page

Back on July 20th, Texas A&M University put out a press release declaring they have the “second-largest fan base of any university-sponsored site worldwide on the popular Internet social media site [FacebookFacebook]” (really). Since then, the school has rallied to become #1, passing Louisiana State University, with a total of better than 63,000 fans. LSU took the bait, and responded with a challenge to their own students and alma mater to become fans. Local online media is also chiming in urging supporters to become Facebook official. But according to Texas A&M, these efforts have been futile, as they were able to add 16,000 fans versus 4,000 for LSU since the challenge started.

Review: JVC Everio X GZ-X900

What is the Everio X GZ-X900? Is it a pocket camcorder like a Flip? Is it a fully-fledged video camera? Is it a YouTube-uploading device? Is it a hybrid of all of these - and more? This new Everio is basically a compact video camera that records at full 1920×1080 1080i resolution at 24Mbps in its highest setting. It can take 9-megapixel still images and records directly to an SD/SDHC memory card. It weights 300 grams (.66 pounds) and has a 2.8-inch color screen. So you want to record at 1080i, eh? Well you’d better have a huge SDHC card because the max you can record is three hours on a 32GB model. A 4GB one can hold 20 minutes at UXP resolution and 2 hours at EP resolution (1920×1080i @ 5Mbps). This brings us to the question: do we as a species need to record at 1080i? No. We do not. There are precious few ways to use this full HD content except for direct TV playback but, god bless us, we’ll die trying. Read More
